Dear Makerspace Coordinator,

I’m writing on behalf of Eastview Secondary’s robotics team about booking the Central Library makerspace for several large 3D prints. The online notice updated on September 30 says: bookings are limited to two hours per patron per day; only PLA filament is permitted on open-frame printers; overnight prints are not allowed; and certification badges are required to operate equipment. It also mentions that staff manage the slicing queue and may pause non-urgent jobs during peak hours. Our regional competition is on November 3, and we need to finish parts by October 20.

Here is our situation. Five students (grades 11–12) completed 3D Printer 101 at the Riverbend branch in June; however, when they tried to book last week, the portal flagged their badges as “expired during system migration.” Could your team honour Riverbend’s training while the databases sync, or issue temporary badges based on the attached certificates? We can bring government ID and agree to a short refresher if required.

Regarding time limits, two hours a day will not cover our print queue. The largest components are wheel hubs and a sensor bracket that require 5–6 hours each at 0.2 mm layer height. Would it be possible to chain adjacent bookings for a supervised block (e.g., three back-to-back slots) if machines are available? Alternatively, could staff continue a job after our two hours if we remain on site and sign the responsibility form? We don’t expect overnight, but a continuous afternoon block would keep tolerances consistent.

Material policy: the bracket must withstand mild heat from a motor mount. We prefer PETG for durability; the notice prohibits PETG on open frames, but Riverbend allows PETG in the enclosed unit with the carbon filter on. If Central has a similar enclosure, may we supply our own unopened PETG spool (brand and MSDS attached) and run it only on that machine? We’re happy to pay the posted material fee or sign a waiver for third-party filament.

Two final requests: (1) can we book the laser engraver for 45 minutes to etch team numbers on acrylic shields; and (2) would the library issue a simple letter confirming access and safety supervision to submit with our grant report? Thank you for considering these accommodations on a tight schedule.

Sincerely,
Priya Banerjee

Choose the best option according to the information given in the message:

1. What is the primary purpose of Priya’s email to the Makerspace Coordinator?
2. According to the posted notice summarized by Priya, which of the following policies applies at Central Library?
3. What does the system message about badges most likely mean in this context?
4. Which accommodation regarding material use is Priya requesting?
5. In the sentence, “They may pause non-urgent jobs during peak hours,” who does “They” most likely refer to?
6. Which additional support does Priya request besides printer time and filament approval?

Dear Ms. Banerjee, Thank you for 7.... and for attaching the June certificates. We will honour Riverbend’s training and issue temporary badges at check-in this week. For time, you may 8.... when capacity allows; staff will remain on deck and manage the queue. We cannot permit overnight prints, but we can 9.... if you are present and the job is safe to continue. Regarding materials, PETG is 10.... on our enclosed, filtered printer only; please bring the sealed spool and MSDS for verification. The laser engraver may be booked for a 45-minute block, and we will provide 11.... for your grant report. Please upload your student roster and preferred dates, and we will confirm by end of day tomorrow. Sincerely, Jordan Lee Makerspace Coordinator
